NAFDAC STRIKE: NIGERIA IN GREAT DANGER

November 15, 2016 soccerwizard

Nigeria is in great danger with fake and unwholesome products flooding the market as a result of the two week warning strike embarked upon by the staff of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The effects of the two weeks warning strike embarked upon by the agency can not be recovered in two months time but the agency is already poised to embark on indefinite strike action as a follow up due to non-compliance to their demands.

Investigation carried out by Succerwizard revealed that the agency which was once tagged “the born again agency in Nigeria” is passing through serious internal problem due to politics played by the management of the agency heads by Mrs. Oni which the staff considered not competent enough to head NAFDAC.

The management is not taking the welfare of the staff as a topmost priority which was never compromised by Dora who knew that the foot soldiers in the war against fake drugs and unwholesome products are her staff and she knew that for the battle against fake and unwholesome products in the country to to be won, the staff’s welfare should not be compromised and this she ensured all through her stay as the NAFDAC boss. But when her successor Dr. Paul Orhii came on board his coming marks the beginning of the decline in the standard of the agency which the present Ag. Director General, Mrs. Oni has finally destroyed.

A staff in Isolo who pleaded to be anonymous while explaining his ordeal to Succerwizard, said: “Dora built, Paul killedand Oni buried”. He further said that it will take the intervention of the Presidency to resuscitate the dead NAFDAC by giving her a substantive Director General who has what it takes to return the agency to where she belongs. He thereby pleaded that government should come to their aid immediately if they truly care about the lives of their citizenry so that the present face-off will not jeopardize the health of the country.

When Succerwizard quizzed the grieved staff about the bone of contention between the management and the staff of the agency, he however highlighted the following:

RETURN TO CONHESS
He said since the agency was moved from CONHESS to CONRISS that some staff’s salary was reduced by N20,000 – N80,000. And that he sees no reason why the agency which is safeguarding the health of the nation could be considered as a non-health agency (a research institute). He said that all effort to fight their way back to CONHESS was proved abortive. That the union who is fighting a just course for the well-being of the staff will continue the fight until victory is secured.

SKIPPINGHe complained that some of his colleagues, who were entitled to move from Level 10 to 12 by skipping Level 11,” weren’t considered. He also pleaded that the government should save the agency from unjust treatment.

WELFARE PACKAGE
He said during Dora’s arrear, 13th month salary was introduced to boost the moral of the staff as well as appreciating their effort in safeguarding the health of the nation. This package came in the month of December each year as a Christmas gift. But when Paul Orhii came on board there was irregularity in the disbursement of this package. At times it takes a whole year something Dora was paying once. Presently, the staff are not even hopeful if the present Ag. Director General who is following the footstep of her predecessor will even consider paying the 13th month allowance considering the fact that the staff of the agency are yet to collect their October 2016 salary.

ILLEGAL EMPLOYMENT
He stressed his disappointment in the agency employing over 200 staff without following due process. That the employment was politicized and was not done base on merit. “This has never happened in NAFDAC before considering the delicate nature of the agency and her position in fighting fake and unwholesome products in Nigeria therefore, why should it happened now?” he quizzed.

Succerwizard will bring you more updates on NAFDAC strike.
