The Security Council as the United Nations centers for strategic studies, capable of articulating plans on how to relate capabilities of the world body to restore world peace and security. There are three strategies of exercising influence often adopted by the Security Council in managing international conflicts.
They are:-

• Persuasion Strategy:
This takes the form of strong verbal condemnation of any threat or an aggression, the employment of preventive diplomacy, peace making and peace building approaches such as lobbying, bargaining, negotiation, mediator, conciliation and arbitration. The Security Council often encourages disputing parties to take advantage of the international court of justice in terms of peaceful settlement.

• Isolation Strategy:
Isolation strategy is a strategy used by the Security Council as a form of permissive measures in sanctions. It includes economic sanction, space flight sanction, Arms embargo and diplomatic sanction, suspension of members from the UN. Iran and Syria are the latest to face such isolation strategy.

• Military or Confrontation strategy:
Military or confrontation strategy takes many forms such as threat of the use of force, multilateral military action on any aggressor, direct weapons inspection of nuclear, biological and chemical sites, expulsion of a member from the United Nations.

During the early decades of the Security Council it had few institutional partners in terms of military and confrontation strategy. But today it has a lot of partners which include NAN as well as more classical regional organization.
