A total of 32 awards were handed out to practitioners of the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, at the fifth edition of the Best Of Nollywood (BON) awards which took place on Sunday, November, 11, 2012, night at TBS Auditorium, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

The ceremony was hosted by Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi and former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Sylvia Nduka.

The biggest winners were the Yoruba movie, Ayekooto, which landed five awards including Best Movie, Best Cinematography, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Yoruba) which went to Femi Adebayo, Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Yoruba) to Ibrahim Chitta and Director of the Year for Bayo Tijani.

The Hausa movie, Madubin Dubawa got three awards. Its leading actor, Ali Nuhu won the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Hausa) and Best Actor (Hausa). Actress Rahama Hassan was also named Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Hausa) for her role in the movie.

Speaking on the awards, the organiser, Seun Oloketuyi, said that his vision for the awards is to provide a platform where Nigerian movie stars can be celebrated.

"Nollywood artists sweat it out daily in order to make their fans happy. They have also created a unique identity for the country through their work. We have successfully done that for the past four years and the stars have come to look forward to it every year as a just reward for their work. We have also had the usual challenges of finance, but God has continued to see us through every year. This year’s event was ably supported by Onga and Anapuna."

Hausa actor Ali Nuhu, who got two awards on the night, noted that this was the first time the Hausa movie industry was fully participating in an award ceremony in Nigeria.

"We are excited at this opportunity to join our colleagues from other genres of the Nigerian movie industry. The BON awards is a welcome development to the industry," he said.
