With Yaya Toure now only the second central midfielder in Premier League history to reach the 20-goal mark, he joins the best goalscoring players in his position from Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Yaya Toure became just the second central midfielder in Premier League history to reach the 20-goal mark in a single season on Wednesday night.
The Ivorian, who reached the landmark by scoring a fine solo effort to round off Manchester City's 4-0 win over Aston Villa, joins Chelsea's Frank Lampard in the almost exclusive club. Both players feature on our list of the Premier League's top ten goalscoring CMs of all time:
10. Gary McAllister - Leeds United, Coventry City and Liverpool. The 57-time Scotland international found the net on 49 occasions during his Premier League career. His final top-flight goal came at the age of 36 for Liverpool against Bradford City in May 2001. Gary McAllister Liverpool.
9. Kevin Nolan - Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United. Perhaps not the most fashionable player, but Sam Allardyce loves Nolan and, when you look at his goalscoring record, it's easy to
understand why. The Hammers captain, who was also Big Sam's skipper at the Reebok Stadium and St James' Park, has scored 80 Premier League goals to date. West Ham Carlton Cole + Kevin Nolan.
8. Danny Murphy - Liverpool, Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. Murphy possessed excellent technique,
making him an excellent option for free- kicks. He was also one of the deadliest penalty takers England has ever seen. He scored 51 Premier League goals in total. Danny Murphy Fulham.
7. Tim Cahill - Everton. Despite being two inches short of six foot,
Cahill was incredibly good in the air. This talent, coupled with his knack of arriving in the box at just the right time, helped him bag 56 goals in 226 top-flight games for the Toffees. Tim Cahill Everton
6. Gus Poyet - Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Poyet become the first Uruguayan to play in the Premier League when he joined Chelsea's multinational revolution in 1997. On the opening day of the 1999-00 season, he scored one of the best goals English football has ever seen, as he latched onto a hooked pass from Gianfranco Zola and sent a stunning scissor-kick volley beyond Sunderland goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen. In total, Poyet scored 36 goals in 105 top-flight appearances for Chelsea, before moving to Spurs, for whom he netted 18 in 82 outings. Gus Poyet Chelsea.
5. Gary Speed - Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers. Speed was part of the Leeds United side that
were crowned champions of England in 1992 the year before the Premier League began. He never won another major trophy,
but he scored 81 goals in the modern top flight. The Welshman had a thunderous left foot. Gary Speed Newcastle United
4. Yaya Toure - Manchester City.
The dynamic Ivorian is the complete midfielder. As well as being big, fast and powerful, he has excellent technique and
unflappable composure. It took him a while to settle in England following his big-money move from Barcelona in the summer of
2010. However, after netting six league goals in each of his first three seasons, he has bagged 20 in just 34 games this term. Nemanja Matic Chelsea Yaya Toure
Manchester City.
3. Steven Gerrard - Liverpool.
Since breaking into the first-team in 1998, one-club man Gerrard has cracked in 111 Premier League goals in 474 games. It looks
like a league title may well elude him, but he has won two FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League and one UEFA Cup. Steven Gerrard Liverpool.
2. Frank Lampard - West Ham United and Chelsea. Only Alan Shearer, Andy Cole, Thierry Henry
and Wayne Rooney have scored more Premier League goals than Lampard, whose tally currently stands at 171. The 35-year-old
is Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer, having scored 211 times in all competitions since
joining the Blues from West Ham in 2001. Frank Lampard Chelsea
1. Paul Scholes - Manchester United In 2011, Barcelona star Xavi described Scholes as the best player in the world, while
Juventus and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has said that he regrets the fact he never got to play alongside the ginger genius. Scholes, who was probably England's finest ever passer, scored 107 goals in 500 Premier League appearances. He won 11 league titles with United.
