Neymar out for 4-6 weeks

Neymar Jr.’s World Cup run is over after incurring a broken vertebrae in his spine during Friday’s quarterfinal match against Columbia. The Brazilian striker was taken off the pitch on a stretcher after a getting knee in the back from Columbia’s Juan Zuniga during a high flying challenge. This means that Neymar will not be able to participate in the remainder of Brazil’s World Cup matches nor FC Barcelona’s pre-season which runs through August 18.


Rodrigo Lasmar, the Brazilian team doctor, stated, “This news is not easy but he will not be available for the rest of the World Cup. Neymar has a broken vertebra. He will be out for four to six weeks.”

Brazilian coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, said, “He was crying out in pain and I can guarantee it’s going to be hard for him, from what the doctors are telling me, and from what I was seeing, with the pain he was in. He’s young, he has a lot of energy and he takes cares of himself. So let’s see. Let’s just hope it’s not a serious problem.”
