The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has debunked reports that it is set to ban some players and coaches of the Super Falcons, over their ongoing protest.
The Falcons have been on strike in Abuja after they won their 10th African Women Cup of Nations title, following the failure of the NFF to settle their outstanding bonuses and allowances.Last week, reports made the rounds that about 10 of the players and some officals would be banned for life, for “ridiculing their fatherland before the international media”.
USA-based striker, Francisca Ordega, was specifically mentioned as one of the players to be banned, over alleged comment that she regretted playing for Nigeria. Orderga has since denied saying that .
“How can people cook up such a story? There is nothing of such,” NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, told The Guardian.
“They are our players and we will continue to appeal to them to see reason with the NFF in view of the tight economic situation we are currently. Their wages will be given to them as soon as we get money. To say that the NFF is planning to ban some of the players and coaches for life is out of it.”
