How Ancient Igbo Land Rid Itself of Dwarfs and Dwarf Genes
In ancient Igbo land, dwarfs and their genes were removed from the general population by sending them to a specific town called Ora-Eri. Some were also sent to Arochukwu, where they served as priests.
Recent studies suggest that these dwarfs may have been a migrating tribe from Central Africa, possibly related to the Pygmies. If a dwarf was born in ancient Igbo society, they were sent to the dwarf kingdom upon reaching the age of 14.
It is believed that the dwarf tribe was the first to settle in what is now Igbo land, living there for hundreds of years before taller African tribes arrived and began mixing with them. The taller newcomers eventually sought to separate themselves from the dwarfs, sending them to the dwarf kingdom.
Life as a dwarf in ancient times was very difficult. Their small size made it hard for them to hunt, farm, or fight in wars, so they were often limited to serving as priests, where their speaking skills were valued.
To this day, many Igbo shrines depict their gods in the form of dwarfs, and some Igbos still dream of spirits as dwarfs.
One can also say, Ancient Igbo land rid itself of dwarfs and dwarf genes by sending them all to one town called Ora-Eri some where sent to Arochukwu to serve as priests.
From studying the map, some are now theorizing that the dwarfs were a tribe that migrated from central africa; the pigmies.
If you gave birth to a dwarf in ancient Igbo, you must send the dwarf to the dwarf kingdom once they come of age (14 years).
It is said that the dwarf tribe was the first tribe to get to present day Igbo land, they were there for hundreds of years before other taller Africans came to mix with them. The taller ones then tried to rid itself of the dwarfs by sending them to dwarf kingdom.
Being a dwarf in ancient times was very very tough life, dwarfs can’t hunt, farm, go to war etc. because of their small size. The only thing they can do is serve as priests where only their speaking skills are needed.
Till today, many Igbo shrines still mould their gods as dwarfs and many igbos still dream of spirits as dwarfs.
